Facts and Statistics
I think that facts and statistics are most effective n a speech when they are used to shock and surprise the audience, and while they are spread out over the entire speech. Many speeches that raise awareness and teach the audience things that they did not know before are the ones that I have found to be the most successful. This is because then, the audience can walk away knowing something interesting they did not know before. I have also learned that facts and statistics are not as effective when they are listed consecutively. This doesn't really give the audience time to get full grasp of the information. Instead, you are just throwing numbers and facts at them and they will probably not get much from it or remember anything the speech addressed.

Hi Marisa! I completely agree with your post. I think that providing the audience with facts and statistics can both be an advantage and disadvantage. Facts and statistics are good when the speaker wants the audience to learn more about the topic he/she is presenting. Especially when the speaker is trying to prove a point. On the other hand, the audience may get too overwhelmed with all of the data given from the short period of time the speech is delivered. I definitely think that it's good to use power point slides when providing the audience with statistics, this gives them the opportunity to also visualize the data as well as hear it.
I totally agree with you marisa and proud mommy. I feel that you have to make sure that you dont overuse the information that you are providing your audience because to much information will in a way pull the audience members attention away. Its never to much to get the ideas out there just remember who your talking to. I also agree with proud mommy when she wrote about using a powerpoint slide....that really can come in handy...for some people hearing so much can go in one ear and out the other and by using powerpoint you not only see it but you hear it as well and that can be a plus for a lot of people. Like I said in my blog you have to know when to use them and when not to use them.
